Serious injury or death: first official steps
If life is at risk, secure emergency help first. Then seek information only through official channels and protect personal information.
After the first conversation: agree on the next step
Write down who shared the information and when, what has been confirmed, and what is still being checked. Ask who is authorised to update the family, how to reach that person, and when to expect the next update. If no time is given, ask when and where to follow up. Do not treat a missing reply as confirmation of anyone’s account.
If a payment or other assistance is discussed, ask which organisation is responsible, how to apply, and which documents are needed. Confirm the conditions and eligibility with the authorised body; share personal documents only after verifying the recipient. If there is an immediate threat to life, call 103 or 112 instead of waiting for a written reply.
Use a written route when needed
For a registered appeal, use e-Otinish and choose the competent state body. The Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office publishes official contacts and information about appeals.
Protect dignity and privacy
Do not post a person’s name, photo, documents, medical details, or location publicly. In an official application, share only the information the recipient needs, and use a verified channel.
